A Glimpse Into Heaven

We are doing a reading with Desmond each night for Advent. We are reading and listening from a children's bible and though it may be for little ones ..it is totally and completly blessng me. What's equally wonderful- Desmond is totally into it. He was asking for his "God Book" ...and pointing to Jesus saying "There's God...There He is again!" ...He listens to the stories and soaks them in. As Desmond's mother..there are few things that could bless me more. Each one of God's stories whispers His name...I love that. I am re-discovering it, you know..how God whispers in our hearts and through our lives and what that means. I've been starving for it. Today I felt that again...pure and unadulterated. I do have those moments but too often they are clouded by the business of life...today I felt it for real like I only have a handful of times in my life. These moments do happen everyday if we only have the clarity of heart to see it...today I held my three week old nephew and just stared at him..holding Sawyer, watching him sleep..God's perfect creation, I don't think there is anything closer to that than that of a newborn or a child of your own. It happened again tonight. Sitting with Desmond looking at his bible..explaining to him the story of Daniel and the Lion's Den, telling him of God's creation of the heavens and the earth..how he sent his Son as a baby to save the world...the words just flowed from my mouth like honey and Des looked at me and back at the book just wide eyed and curious. A whole world of stories, of inspiration, of God's holy word, of His incredible love waiting to be written on Desmond's heart..it was one of those moments I'm not sure I could forget...
They are those times..
Those moments that touch you deeply.
You feel as if you are encountering a picture, a feeling, a glimpse of God.
Of Heaven, of His utterly perfect creation, what it was intended it to be.
Pure and blameless.
Real, tangible, heart peircing.
 Imprinted on your soul.
And someday..
when with The Creator..
they will all come together
woven carefully by His divine hand.

late night ramblings

I'm unable to sleep so I thought I'd spill my brain here...I may ramble and bore you, just a heads up ;)
Tony and I just watched the Mr. Universe special by Jim Gaffigan tonight and my throat is actually scratched from laughing so hard. I'm not a fan of most stand up comedians...they're either just too dirty or they try to hard. Jim Gaffigan talks about stuff I can relate to...sometimes so much so it's creepy! This whole segment on McDonald's is spot on..he also talked about putting kids to bed (I wish I could find that segment on youtube!)  and I nearly wet my pants. He's obviously a real person and that's what makes it hilarious. You can watch this whole thing on Netflix instant streaming...it's worth the entire hour, take my word for it!
We've got a friend's wedding coming up next month up in Portland. It will be our first night away from Des and I'm so nervous. My parents will do a great job with him but I keep thinking of how empty I will feel driving up there with no Des in the back seat..or going to bed without kissing him goodnight. I wonder if it's too early to do this..but then I wonder if it will be like the teenage years before I don't feel this way when away from our son. So we just gotta do it. It will mean a lot to Tony to go and it would be good for us to have some 'us' time..I'm sure I'm not the only mom who has ever felt like this though..how have you coped with leaving your child for a night? I know, there are worse things ...but I'm a wuss and obviously very attached to this child of mine. Hopefully it will be fine, I am still scared though :/
I counted today and I know 14 people who are pregnant, majority of them are friends and a few acquaintances. Is there something in the water? ;) You all know where I stand at this point with baby #2...I'm enjoying baby #1 too much at the moment. Maybe it's a bit personal but there was a point recently where I thought I could be pregnant because things were off...well it just so happened that I was just really late and for probably the first time in my life I was actually relieved to NOT be pregnant. Not just because our lives are stressful at the time being..with Tony starting the masters program this month and trying to get ourselves established etc etc. but it was mainly because I didn't want another baby right now. I write those words and I'm shocked by them, it's so not me...but this is where I am at in my life and it feels right, it feels liberating. Sometimes I feel like I write posts about this topic because I'm trying to convince myself..but I'm coming to realize I post about it because I love feeling FREE to not be envious, rushed, sad or anxious...or any of those 'not pregnant' feelings women get. I hope anyone who ever reads this blog knows that, as selfish as this sounds, this blog is for me. I don't write here to get followers or make my way to 'the most popular mom blog' list. What I mean is...this is a place for me to sort out my thoughts, get my feelings out in the open, figure stuff out..and it ends up becoming a way of remembering my life. I love that, whether it be the good times or the struggles. So on a topic that is so very dear to my heart...pregnancy, childbearing, babies, family and so on...this is where I am and I so very much so want to remember this. This is different for me and that's important and worth noting. There will be more children, there's no doubt about that. My heart does long to grow my family but I am surprised that I am actually content and happy with not doing so at the moment. So, I am praying we can put it off a year...or two :)
goodnight ♥

Mother's Day and Other News...

We had a lovely Mother's Day on Sunday, the whole family got together at our favorite park and had a pot luck. Weve been doing this on Father's day the past couple years and decided to start the tradition on Mother's Day too. This way we dont have to split up going to each family's house, we just all come together and visit and it always makes for a wonderful time. The kids all get to play together and good food is always plus in my opinion ;) Tony works weekends now until 3:30 so we had to make it work for the first hour which was hard, even with all the adults Desmond still managed to run off at one point (while I was getting his food) and went crazy trying to get to the swings which in result made me look like a mad woman of a mother. It was embarassing trying to catch him as he cried and ran away over and over walking right into other people's picnics :| He was doing the whole go limp thing when you try and pick them up...real cute. Once Tony got there it got so much easier. I do not know how single mothers do it. I admire them so much. I nearly had a nervous breakdown just trying to manage an hour out in public without my other half! lol. pathetic! Once again a confirmation that ONE is enough for me right now! But overall it was a great day, we had a lot of fun and I was very happy to get to spend my mother's day with all the other moms in my life (including my own) that I love most. They are such a blessing to me!

Tomorrow is the first day of practice for my new cheer team! Im so excited. I can seriously barely contain myself! In other news..my mother in law got me a massage for Christmas this year and I finally scheduled it for Thursday! Ive never had a massage done before and I desperately need one, my muscles are crazy tense in my back. It's an hour and a half long! I thought that was so long but the masseus explained that if it's your first one and you need a lot of work done on your back (which I do) that it's the perfect amount of time...Im not supposed to work or do anything really physical right after because I will apparently feel 'gooey' !? Im excited about this! Im afraid I will feel so good after that I will become addicted so something I most definitely cannot afford! lol. It's a huge treat, that's for sure! It's been in the high 80s this week and now Im itching to get to the ocean. I think we are going to try and take a little weekend trip next month if we can afford it. Tony starts his masters program in a couple weeks which means 16 credits worth of school plus work! Thankfully it's only a year and then we are free! He graduates with his bachelors in physics next month too so we are looking forward to that! Im so proud of him! I cannot believe a year from now he will officially be ready to teach! He volunteers to help run a tutoring program at one of the local middle schools. He has been told a few times now (by teachers) that he wont have a hard time finding a teaching job in the sciences or math (because he can do either)...plus it really helps that he has his foot in the door with the school district by volunteering twice a week. He is basically running this program with one other guy..it's been a pretty awesome opportunity for him and it's TOTALLY God, He just called the school and there it was. Plus the kids love him, he's been called 'the cool science guy' and told that he would be 'the best teacher ever!!" haha. He just has such an awesome passion for learning, not just physics, math or science but all the subjects. He is the kind of person that is smart in nearly every area of learning and he has a God given ability to explain things in a way that makes sense but also a way that makes you want to learn. Im just so excited for him, I could rant and rave forever but youve all heard it before :) he's pretty much the best. And I am so thrilled our future is just right at our finger tips. It's a good place to be.

child spacing

Ive been praying and reading and thinking a lot lately. Im starting to really feel that I want Desmond and our next baby to be at least 3 years apart. I figure this is something to write about since everyone is blogging about being pregnant...Im going to blog about not being pregnant :) and how much I like it. haha just kidding. Honestly, I loved being pregnant and I know Tony and I are meant to have at least 2 more children together. So I am excited too. But..working the coaching job I have now is hard enough with one child, I cant imagine two children..or three! AH! It's scary just to think about. My hope is that by at least 3 years in between then Des will be out of diapers, more independent but as I type that I think...ehh..maybe 4 years lol. or five..because then Des will be in preschool by that point. The thought of waiting that long before broke my heart...but it doesnt anymore. It's weird. Usually when I watch 'A Baby Story' on TLC I get nostalgic and want another one and blah blah blah..but not lately. Almost every episode I ever see anymore is about a mother having her second or third and it shows the sadness from being separated from their other children and having to give less time to the etc. And the thought of that breaks my heart! I guess Im just not ready to share my 'Desmond time' with another child. Is that selfish? I dont know. But it's definitely where I am. And as Ive said before..I love my job, and I need the time and energy to put everything into that over these next couple years...obviously with God and my family coming first. I write about this often, one because it helps me come to terms with exactly what I am feeling and what I want. And I think it's to encourage other moms who might be in the same boat. The pressure to have more children is insane, but for me..when I really think about what my heart wants..what is smart for our family..what Desmond needs...that's when the real honest answers come out and I need to hold true to those ♥

life lately...

Ah my good ol blog. Im back to update you on my very normal life! lol. Desmond is always busy these days. He fell out of the crib yesterday for the first time. Thankfully he didnt hurt himself, just a minute or so of crying and comforting from mom. We turned his crib around so the shorter end is right against the wall, and the back part sleighs up so there's no way he could get over that..not yet at least. We are going to put a toddler bed in his room in the mean time just so he can get used to the idea. Im hoping he will want to be a 'big boy' and voluntarily sleep in it :) haha...well, we'll see. I also think the fall really scared him so I dont know that he will be trying that again soon. Im just not ready to go cold turkey with the crib. We all (Dad and grandparents alike) agree he isnt ready for a toddler bed yet, he's too wild ..and he loves his crib SO much. I dont have the heart to take it away..so hopefully it will be a slow but smooth transition to eventually sleeping in a toddler bed :)

The sun has been shining almost every day! Lots of time spent with the family lately. Im still loving 'One Thousand Things' and counting what I am thankful for. It is changing my heart in a grand way ♥ Im going to be posting more on that note soon... Happy May! Summer is nearly here!

babies babies everywhere!

When I got pregnant I started following a few other mom bloggers who were also expecting and due around the same time as me. Ive gotten to know a few of them, watch their little ones grow as they watched mine (through the blog world anyways)..and now, as time passes Im finding that Im the only one left, out of my friends in real life with young children (my sons age at least) and of my blog friends who is not now expecting another baby. For a while there I felt pressured (Ive blogged about this before)...like it was a competition or something? Like 'alright, everyone else is having another one, now it's your turn' I dont know..it's dumb, but I think if most moms answered honestly they would agree that they have felt something similar. But through a lot of prayer and long talks with Tony, Ive come to terms with the fact that I dont want another baby right now and I am okay with that. Im content with where we are at. WHAT?! I know..I cant believe I said it. When I hear that friends are pregnant I no longer feel than little pang of 'aw man I wish that was me :( " the main reason is because Im loving my job now that I am running the Crater cheer program. It demands a lot of time and energy and I want to be able to give that. Of course my family, my son..they come first before cheer. I still miss Des like crazy when I have practice, games, tryouts etc and what not but I feel we have really struck a balance between work and being a mom. I dont want to solely be a stay at home mom right now and if I had another baby I might have to do that. That's all I used to want, just stay home with my children which I still want that someday, but I know that is not where I am supposed to be right now. Im excited about this. Im excited to love my job so much and to have time to cherish Desmond without feeling rushed to have another baby. It's totally from God too, I didnt feel this way just a couple months ago but suddenly a weight has been lifted and Im ready to freely put my time and energy into what God has put right in front of me :) It's such a good place to be, for me at least. I really felt led to blog about this these past couple days and it feels good to get it out there, to get this off my chest. I feel empowered by it for some reason. I know a year, or two, three or four down the road we will be so ready ..because believe me, we definitely want more children, just not now. The end :]

This Mom's Life

I stole this from my friend Krystle over at Three Little Men and a Mommy. I just had to do it :]
. . .
What are three words that describe you as a mom?
loving, passionate, empathetic

Your favorite family ritual?
Tony and I put Desmond to bed together every night. We have since he was born. Tony carries Des up the stairs and I usually come behind tickling Desmond's feet..he loves that. It's just something we always do together ♥ And we also always go back in a check on Des before we go to sleep..it usually involves us ooing and aaing at how adorable Desmond is, especially when he is peacefully sleeping. There's nothing more beautiful than a sleeping baby! I always think I cant imagine a time when we wont come into his room when he is fast asleep and gaze over him with love, he will always be our baby.

What's on your nightstand?
candle, phone,Ipad, wedding ring (I take it off at night), Bible, Journal, Parent magazine, a couple seashells weve collected from special trips to the ocean...
Is there a parenting rule you never break?
hurting friends or animals is never okay. Weve just started doing timeouts, and he usually always gets one for that.
And one you always break?
Sometimes I think "no tv today!"..yeah, that never works. lol. My child is addicted to Yo Gabba Gabba and man it's nice to have him happy and distracted so I can get stuff done sometimes!
Is there a beauty product you can't live without?
mascara and liquid eyeliner for sure.
What five things are always in your fridge?
eggs, milk (if not we'de suffer Desmond's wrath!),fruit, butter, tea.
Your most memorable family vacation?
August 2011 we went to the coast as a family for my 23rd birthday. It was Desmond's first time really experiencing the beach. He loved it. Plus our whole family was there staying in one beach house :) lucky for us, we're going back a week from Thursday!
What's been your hardest parenting moment so far?
after I had Desmond I had pretty bad post partum depression, a lot of anxiety and top that, very little sleep and a colicky newborn. It was rough.. After a good cry with my mom and sisters, they helped me realize it was all hormonal, once I could really seperate myself and realize that downer feeling was only because of hormones it helped tremendiously ...Im so blessed I had them as a support system. Things got a little easier at the 2 month mark. Also, when Desmond had a seizure last Fall, that was the worst day of my life. The spinal tap may have been just as bad as the seizure. Just remembering it bring back horrible feelings and tears to my eyes. I hope we never go through anything like it again.
Do you have a favorite book in your house right now?
Desmond loves 'Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs' (by Sandra Boynton) right now. He almost always can point to the 'yellow, blue, green and red' dinosaurs too! That made me so proud haha :)
Your biggest guilty pleasure?
Red Bull with raspberry from DB!
What's been the most surprising thing about parenthood?
the immense love you instantly have for your child. It's different than loving a spouse, that is special and amazing in it's own way. But when it is your own child it's a love that is strong, real, consistent. It's almost as if it shines out of your finger tips and pours out of your heart ♥

Spring is upon us!

It's that time of year again! Time to start working in the garden, and if you know anything about Desmond you know there are few things he loves more than exploring and working outside :) I call it working because to him, that's what he is doing! He mows the lawn, uses the big shovel and does his best to dig, tromps around like he has much to do...it's pretty funny to watch. He's just so busy! And in the Summer when everything is ripe and blooming ..that's when he reaps the benefits. He's almost always outside looking for ripe raspberries, strawberries and blackberries! He spends most his Summer days in this garden and I just love that. Today was our first day back out in the yard since Fall! Desmond was just busy busy busy with so much to do. He isnt 100% better yet, still a junky cough and he gets tired easily...but Im pretty sure I can say were both on the mend, at least I hope so! Tony's working weekends now with two days off mid week (Tuesday/Thursday). It's been a struggle for us to get used to it but you just do, it's life and you have to adjust. Definitely a bummer but we're holding out that it wont be for too long :) ... well, here's some pictures from today! Time to watch some Man vs Wild with my love :) night!

Desmond at 19 months!

really excited to be at Red Robin!
Weight: Desmond is 31 lbs
Length: and 33 inches
Eats: He isnt eating as much these days. The only thing he will eat non stop is fruit. He goes rummaging through the fridge trying to find grapes and oranges lol. Oh and he looooooves milk.
Sleeps: Des sleeps 11-12 hours a night and naps an hour to 2 hours a day. I hope it stays that way as long as possible!!
Likes: the vacuum, he follows me around crying because he wants to push it and press the on/off button over and over..he also now loves to wear one mine or Tony's shoe around the house and go up and down the stairs..he will work on that for a long time! He loves to jump on the bed and he is absolutely crazy for holding his baby nephew Cillian! He yells for 'Bebee!' ...he still loves bathtime and sticking his face in the water for half a second (I think we need to get him into swimming!) Going down the slide over and over .. And as always, he loves Yo Gabba Gabba, we watch it every morning during breakfast :)
Dislikes: sitting in his highchair...suddenly he hates it and insists on sitting in a 'big boy' chair. Being told no to any of the things I listed above...he has been throwing some collasal tantrums lately. We cant go to the store without him screaming to get out of the cart, and that's not an option because he will just run and run and run. GAH! Toddlerhood!!
Milestones: Des seems to understand conversation so much better than before. I can ask him and question and more often than not he understands. Granted Im asking really simple questions but still! He says "I love you mommy" which makes my heart want to explode! He has suddenly become kind of bossy...He will turn the vacuum on and off and then look at me and shake his head and say 'no no no'...he's done something similar to his cousin Coco as well. It's pretty funny! He can literally climb up the slide at the park! He climbs on anything and everything! This boy never ceases to amaze me ♥

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

gotta love that moment in Fred Meyers when you hear a screaming tantrum throwing toddler halfway across the store...and then realize that's your child :|

Des is really into the 'floppy fish' tactic these days....lol. Good lord. TODDLERS! bah! ...this post was awesome, just what I needed to hear on a day like today!

baby loving and a big boy haircut

Oh it's been such a good week. Weve been busy loving on that precious new baby boy. He is just wonderful. Such a mellow little guy, sleeps through anything and everything...We're just having so much fun with him! Being an aunt is seriously the best. Both times he's come over Ive gotten so excited! I need my Cillian fill! It subsides my baby fever ;) not that it's out of control or anything...but when your toddler is looking like such a big boy, you really start to miss those tiny newborn days. I do love where we are but there's nothing like a sweet cuddly baby.

Desmond studying Baby Cillian. Afterwards Desmond grabbed a baby doll and laid it down like we had Cillian here...he kept kissing, hugging and loving on it just like we were doing with Cillian! It was the sweetest thing...I instantly knew that one day he will make a wonderful loving father just like his daddy.
In other news...Desmond got his first 'big boy' haircut and I cried! haha...weve trimmed it but never full on cut it. My mom asked if she could cut it (she used to be hairdresser) and I agreed thinking she was just going to make it less of a mullet. But when I came home from coaching on Friday, the baby curls were gone and I kind of had a little episode lol. I ended up loving it five minutes later, he looks seriously cute cut the way it is now...but it is really all that is left of his babyhood...and it was like I had to let that go. That's okay. It's time, but it will definitely be a mommy moment I wont forget. Little tears coming down my face as I hold my son...slightly pathetic but probably more normal than you'de think ;) He still does have that natural curl and beautiful hair as always...I will get a picture up soon of his big boy haircut.
Tomorrow is mine and Tony's valentines day since Im coaching a game on Tuesday. We're going to a movie and dinner at a lovely little German place. They have delicious food and amazing beer. Then we hope to get home in time to catch Downton Abbey! Should make for a wonderful night. And I finshed the Hunger Games trilogy last night! I should say this morning...I wasnt up until 5 am reading or anything.... ;) lol. The ending was hard to swallow but I really did love the books. I dont thinking Ive ever read any book so fast in my life! I cant wait to see all the movies...now I just need a light read after all that heavy stuff. If you have any reccomendations send them my way :) Im off to work on a little video Im puting together of the new baby..night friends ♥

this past week...

We had a pretty uneventful week, Desmond had croup and I had a head cold. His strider was so bad, anytime he breathed hard or got worked up it sounded horrible. So, we kept him home and tried to keep him as mellow as possible. Thankfully he is doing so much better, just a little cough here and there but that's it! He was given a long lasting steroid at the doctor's office on Monday and it really did work wonders. Now he is pretty much back to normal..which for him isnt usual, his colds usually hang on a looong time. Yesterday was really his first time out of the house since last weekend, not counting his doctors appointment. We had such a great day. Tony had the day off which never happens on Saturdays so it was treat for us. We went to lunch at one of our favorite places, came home and read and napped. Later we got coffee at a cute local cafe, came home and cleaned and then had dinner and visited with the family. Des was ready for bed by 9 and went down with no problem. We had a really nice relaxing evening. It was just a good day! Today we are going to see The Grey with my dad while my mom babysits Desmond. So yep! That's what's going on with us! Nothing too thrilling but enjoying life nonetheless :) Hope all is well with you guys. Ill blog more soon.

a response to 'Don’t Carpe Diem'

LOVE Adriel's response to Glennon Melton’s 'Don’t Carpe Diem' on the Huffington Post.

a snippet ------>

"I get the Don’t Carpe Diem thing.

Really, I do.
Life can be hard and we shouldn’t beat ourselves up or feel guilty for not living on cloud nine in a perpetual state of extacy. Especially when it comes to our parenting.

But I don’t fully agree with the Don’t Carpe Diem thing either.

Because when I’m trying to console a crying baby in one arm and make dinner with the other… when I’m pulling over the car to deal with a melt-down in the back seat… when I’m pouring over my bank account trying to find a way to make all the ends meet… when I’m in over my head with commitments and obligations… when I’m delicately trying to see a relationship mended… when I’m praying for answers or healing or breakthrough but am not seeing answers… when I would give anything just to sleep until 9:00am or have an hour to myself…
Those are the moments that I need Carpe Diem. Those are the moments when I need to remember that life is good and it is fleeting and it does all work out well in the long run.

I need Carpe Diem to pull me through.

I need Carpe Diem to remind me that it’s all worth it.
I need Carpe Diem to help me stay focused on the big picture… that happens in many small moments.
Like most of us, I want to be the type of person that is growing in my awareness of the moment, of enjoying it, of savoring it so that I don’t get to the end of my days and wonder what if I paid more attention?

Carpe Diem without the guilt.

As much as I need Carpe Diem, I’ve also got to figure out how to Carpe Diem in a way that doesn’t leave me feeling guilty or defeated or diminished because it’s impossible to live it out every single (chronos) moment.
It’s my responsibility – no one else’s – to make sure that I don’t get caught in my own guilt trap. No one can do that for me.

So I say, Carpe Diem!

Learn to live in the moment! Learn to cherish the ordinary! Learn to see value in the mundane!
And in the spirit of Carpe Diem…

I also say, leave your self-induced guilt trip at the door!

Leave behind your undue pressures and unrealistic expectations and self-doubt.
We were made for this friends – made to seize the moment… to live on purpose… to live well…
In the magic moments… and the normal ones too."

To the Mother With Only One Child

wow. this article could have been written about me! thank you times a million to the very wise author ♥

by: Simcha Fisher

Don’t say it. Before the words can even pass your lips, let me beg you: don’t say, “Wow, you have nine kids? I thought it was hard with just my one!”

My dear, it is hard. You’re not being a wuss or a whiner when you feel like your life is hard. I know, because I remember having “only one child.” You may not even believe how many times I stop and reflect on how much easier my life is, now that I have nine children.

All right, so there is a lot more laundry. Keeping up with each child’s needs, and making sure they all get enough attention, is a constant worry. And a stomach bug is pretty much the end of the world, when nine digestive tracts are afflicted.

But I remember having only one child, and it was hard—so very hard. Some of the difficulties were just practical: I didn’t know what I was doing, had to learn everything. People pushed me around because I was young and inexperienced. But even worse were the emotional struggles of learning to be a mother.

When I had only one child, I truly suffered during those long, long, long days in our little apartment, no one but the two of us, baby and me, dealing with each other all day long. I invented errands and dawdled and took the long way home, but still had hours and hours to fill before I would hear my husband’s key in the door.

I cared so much what other people thought about her—they had to notice how beautiful she was, they had to be impressed at my natural mothering skills. I obsessed over childhood development charts, tense with fear that my mothering was lacking—that I hadn’t stimulated her enough, or maybe had just passed on the wrong kind of genes. I cringe when I remember how I pushed her—a little baby!—to achieve milestones she wasn’t ready for.

I lived in terror for her physical safety (I once brought her to Urgent Care, where the doctor somewhat irritably diagnosed a case of moderate sniffles) fearing every imaginable disease and injury. In my sleep-deprived state, I would have sudden insane hallucinations that her head had fallen off, her knees had suddenly broken themselves in the night, and so on.

My husband didn’t know how to help me. I didn’t know how to ask for help. My husband had become a father, and I adored him for it. My husband got to leave the house every day, and sleep every night. He got to go to the bathroom alone. I hated him for it.

When I had only one child, I told myself over and over that motherhood was fulfilling and sanctifying and was filling my heart to the brim with peace and satisfaction. And so I felt horribly guilty for being so bored, so resentful, so exhausted. This is a joyful time, dammit! I should enjoy being suddenly transformed into the Doyenne of Anything that Smells Bad.

I loved my baby, I loved pushing her on the swing, watching squirrels at the park together, introducing her to apple sauce, and watching her lips move in joyful dreams of milk. But it was hard, hard, hard. All this work: is this who I am now? I remember!

So now? Yes, the practical parts are a thousand times easier: I’m a virtuoso. I worry, but then I move along. Nobody pushes me around, and I have helpers galore. Someone fetches clean diapers and gets rid of the dirty ones. When the baby wakes up in the middle of the night for the ten thousandth time, I sigh and roll my eyes, maybe even cry a little bit for sheer tiredness—but I know it will pass, it will pass.

It’s becoming easier, and it will be easier still. They are passing me by.

I’m broken in. There’s no collision of worlds. We’re so darn busy that it’s a sheer delight to take some time to wash some small child’s small limbs in a quiet bath, or to read The Story of Ferdinand one more time. Taking care of them is easy. It’s tiring, it’s frustrating, but when I stop and take a breath, I see that it’s almost like a charade of work. All these things, the dishes, the diapers, the spills—they must be taken care of, but they don’t matter. They aren’t who I am.

To become a mother, I had to learn how to care about someone more than I did about myself, and that was terrible. But who I am now is something more terrible: the protector who can’t always protect; the one with arms that are designed to hold, always having to let go.

Dear mother of only one child, don’t blame yourself for thinking that your life is hard. You’re suffering now because you’re turning into a new woman, a woman who is never allowed to be alone. For what? Only so that you can become strong enough to be a woman who will be left.

When I had only one child, she was so heavy. Now I can see that children are as light as air. They float past you, nudging against you like balloons as they ascend.

Dear mother, don’t worry about enjoying your life. Your life is hard; your life will be hard. That doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong—it means you’re doing it right.

life lately..

Tomorrow is mine and Desmond's day off. We have a few through out the week but tomorrow comes right in between my two busiest days so it always feels like a treat :) Not sure what we will do, Ide like to get the house cleaned up and Ive got a lot to do for my sisters baby shower this weekend. On that note...MY NEPHEW IS ALMOST HERE!!! Soooooooo excited! Another precious baby?! How blessed are we! February 7th is his due date, holy moly...I cannot. wait!

Desmond has not been sick with any asthma symptoms since we moved in September. We found out this Summer that our apartment AC/heater had mold in it...not super dangerous mold, but mold nonetheless. We spent pretty much all our time in front of that thing, playing on the floor, eating, watching tv...Des was sick from January until almost the time we moved, but since then he hasnt experienced any wheezing, chest congestion, coughing etc. Maybe he is just aging out of it..or maybe he will end up sick and Ill be eating my words ...but Im praying that maybe we are done with all that and that the mold was the culprit.

Im dreaming of a night away with my love. Not to be away from Desmond, but just something special for Tony and I. Weve yet to be away from Desmond for a night, I know it would be really hard to not worry or think of how much we miss him constantly but, I think Tony and I need it...like I said, not to be away from Desmond but just a night away to focus on eachother, Im thinking a nice dinner and a night at the Bybee B&B, our wedding night room. Last time we were there we discovered they had a tv (in the closet) and we about freaked out. We wasted a lot of time watching a locally made movie public access in which we were making fun of it the entire time...like crying laughing. We really are weird. Our wedding and honeymoon really was magical, I seriously get butterflies when I think about it...so being back at the Bybee would be a dream for us. Our anniversary is in March, hopefully we can make this happen...that and going to the coast is all I can think about lately. Im slowly feeling 'over' Winter and wanting to move onto Spring adventures :)

Ill post more later. Time to cuddle up with husband, Love him ♥
Have a lovely Thursday friends!
